(Roll mouse over location name to highlight on map) Area Guides - London Suburbs
In this section, we're reviewing housing locations that are inside the M25 ring, but not part of Central London. We're doing this for convenience as the M25 ring is an easily found marker for those of you who are unfamiliar with the UK, but its worth noting that places such as Kingston, Rickmansworth & Northwood, and Weybridge & Cobham are not part of the contiguous London suburbs, but are separate towns or communities outside London. We're only going into detail in those areas that we think are WORTH looking at. Like any large capital city, there are large swathes that you try not to live in if you can afford somewhere better, and we make no apology for telling you how awful some locations really are!! If you're looking for western locations mid-way between Heathrow Airport and the city centre, then the undoubted jewel in the crown is Richmond. Both Kingston, to the south, and Ealing, on the Piccadilly line out to Heathrow, also have much to offer. Docklands & Greenwich offer a choice of living styles and facilities on the eastern side of the city centre, with easy access to London City Airport. If you're looking further out, then please consider either Rickmansworth & Northwood, or Weybridge & Cobham. The former is within the bussing area of ACS Hillingdon (the American Community School), whilst the latter is good for ACS Cobham, or TASIS. If these areas are of interest, you should also check out our Outer London Green Belt section for other suggestions. London suburbs can offer a reasonable compromise between cost and convenience. They're often quieter at night, and if you don't need to get into the city centre every day, they offer a reasonable alternative for commuting. Property prices, both to purchase and to rent, are generally much cheaper than in Central London. Our location guides try not to pull any punches!! We hope that you'll enjoy reading them. For ease of reference, area information is split geographically, as follows:
If schools are an issue for you, please review our Education Information. Users of our relocation service can take full advantage of our school search programme, where we will give you individually tailored advice on the options for your children, source school space and obtain prospectuses, and arrange accompanied school visits for you. 3.13.2 - v1.0 |
