In this section we've tried to provide a quick introduction to the various ways in which you can enjoy (??) shopping in the UK. The quality of the retail experience can vary widely - Brits are often shy about complaining, but standards are slowly improving. For instance, supermarket customer service is generally perceived not to be as good as that of the USA - despite all the hype UK checkout queues can be long, and getting your stuff packed up or taken out to the car requires you to be at least 39 weeks pregnant and threatening immediate delivery!! On the other hand, a large number of stores have invested heavily in staff training, and shopping in quality stores such as John Lewis is a positive delight. Shopping in and around London can be fun. London shopping is a book-writing job - everyone has their own favourites. For a quick tour, start in Knightsbridge and check out Harrods, and the fashion shops in Sloane Street. Then move on up into Piccadilly, then up Regent Street to Oxford Circus, before heading west down Oxford Street to Marble Arch.
