Most children in the UK with special needs are educated in mainstream state or independent schools but there are also a number of schools in the UK for those who require more specialised facilities. All state schools have a senior member of their teaching staff responsible for coordinating the special educational needs of their pupils. Often funding for extra staff and extra facilities will be made available to ensure their needs are met. The Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF) have pages on their website dedicated to Special Educational Needs which are essential reading for concerned parents - Click here.
