Faiths in the UK
On the following pages we have tried to include contact details for branches of the six major world religions where possible. Also included are details of National Churches in London. In the UK there are no restrictions on religious practice, in fact the country has a history of welcoming those seeking escape from persecution because of their religious beliefs. Practically all world faiths are represented in the UK. This section has links to six of the major world religions. In the UK the "officially recognised" religion is the Church of England. The Monarch is the Head of the church which has two Provinces, Canterbury and York. Each Province comprises a number of Dioceses which normally cover one or more English counties. A diocese is made up of parishes, which may be a small town, part of a town, a village or a group of villages. Click here for more information on the Church of England. As well as the Church of England, the UK has many other Christian denominations and churches, a selection of these are listed in our Christianity section. The following links will help you find information for other religions and churches: We sincerely welcome your comments and suggestions for improvements and additions to this section. 3.9 - v1.1 |
