Catalogue Shopping

Catalogue shopping started many years ago.  It offers the convenience of shopping from the comfort of your armchair at a time to suit you.

Catalogues also offer the convenience of either paying in full for your purchases, or spreading the cost over a certain period of time.  Do check the terms and conditions of the credit they extend to you - it often attracts a high interest rate.  Because of the ability of obtaining items on extended credit - you can often pay weekly amounts - catalogue shopping has attracted a poor reputation and was seen to be ideal for those on a tighter budget.  Their prices were always slightly higher than those found on the high street too.

However, catalogue companies are doing all they can to dispel their old reputation, and most will now not automatically assume that you want to purchase from them on account, and their prices are more competitive.

Most catalogue companies will offer a free returns policy, so you can try the clothes on, or see the items you have ordered before committing to purchase them.

Before sending you a catalogue, most companies will run a credit search on you to check your creditworthiness within the UK.  It may be an idea to contact the catalogue company directly to advise that you are new to the UK, and therefore, your credit rating will be poor as there is not yet any information recorded about you.  Most of them will understand and will be able to confirm that a catalogue will be posted to you anyway.

Below is a list of links to the main catalogues that are to be found advertised in magazines and newspapers.  They sell everything from clothes and jewellery through to washing machines and dining tables!

For more specific catalogues that sell only a small range of items, or items for a particular purpose (arts & crafts, pet supplies, new inventions etc) click here.  You'll be amazed at what a large range of catalogues are available!  These sorts of catalogues have a more relaxed approach to your custom, and most do not offer credit facilities - you order the products, you receive them, you pay for them.  This is a lot easier and means that you can have access to a wider range of products.
